Frequently Asked Questions PDF Print E-mail

1)  Does the HandyFuge use batteries?

  • No.  The Handyfuge is powered by a patented mechanism that is engaged by a hand-lever.

2)  What are the advantages of the HandyFuge compared to a large and expensive centrifuge?

  • Low cost
  • In the event of contamination, you can simply dispose the unit.  It would be very costly to dispose or disable a centrifuge that cost thousands of dollars.
  • For the intended purpose, you can't beat the ease and simplicity of the HandyFuge.
  • It's portable. You can move it from bench to bench, lab to lab, or out to the field.

3) How many tubes can be spun in the HandyFuge?

  • 76 tubes.

4) How many plates can be spun in the HandyFuge?

  • Two plates.

5) Does the centrifuge need to be balanced (have near-equal weight distribution when spinning)?

  • Yes.  Although the HandyFuge is a low speed centrifuge, the laws of physics still apply.  However, unlike an expensive centrifuge, you can't damage the HandyFuge if you forget to balance.

6) How do I clean the HandyFuge?

  • Clean the outer bowl and spinning-platform (the piece that holds the plates and tubes) with mild detergent and water.
  • Clean the inside and outside of the lid by wiping it down with a damp paper towel or cloth.  Be careful not subject the lid to excessive liquid.  Subjecting the lid to running water may damage the spinning mechanism that is built into the lid.
  • You can disassemble the lid for cleaning as demonstrated in the following link:  LINKHERE.

7) Does the HandyFuge come with a warranty?

  • We guarantee the HandyFuge against any manufacturing defects for 90 days.

8) Will samples fall out of my plate or become dislodged since they are held vertically?

  • No. Capillary action will retain the liquid in your tube.  In addition, most plates are sealed with a plastic cap or adhesive film to further prevent loss.

9) What are the dimensions of the HandyFuge?

  • Size - 10.2 x 10.2 x 6 inches ; Weight - 2 Pounds

10) How fast does the HandyFuge spin?

  • The HandyFuge can reach 1500+RPMs.  This will exert 230 RCF (Gs) to samples in plates.

11) How should I store and transport the HandyFuge?

  • We recommend that you keep the shipping box and cardboard insert for transportation. The dimensions have been specifically designed for the HandyFuge and will serve as the best way to transport the device. If you lose the box please contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to get a replacement at additional cost. In addition, store the HandyFuge fully assembled with the basket inside the bowl and the lid tightly closed. This will keep the internal basket in a rigid position so it will not become deformed.
